IN PLAYOFFS, RED SOX HAVE EDGE AGAINST YANKEES
OK, The Yankees just put the beatdown on the Sox and swept them in 4 games. They won every way possible, A thrashing in Thursday's So Long to Smoltz day. A Pitcher's Duel and Instant Classic Friday. A regular grind away at the opposing pitcher game on Saturday and a come from behind victory in front of the world on Sunday night. Enough to make Lobelia Sox fans to push the PANIC BUTTON.
Well, before we all start leaping off the ZAKIM, take heed. The Big Bad Yankees have developed an Achilles heal as of late. It's called performing in the playoffs. We all know about A-rod's lack luster playoff stats (.269, 1 HR, 2 RBI's, 11 Postseason games). But CC and Joba combine for a 6.50+ post season ERA. AJ Burnett has never Pitched in a big game and Pettitte's best days were a 3.96 and very hittable.
Meanwhile your hometown 9 boasts Josh Beckett with a lifetime 2.90 post season ERA with a .94 WHIP, 96 K's in 87 IP and only 20 BB. Jon Lester, though a shorter sampling, has a 2.25 post season ERA with a 1.08 WHIP and 34K's and only 9 BB's .
If Buchholz, Penny, Wakefield, Dice-K, can give them one more decent starter the Red Sox should still be considered the team to beat in The AL EAST. Unless they don't hit. But they will, won't they?
WHAT SAY YOU RED SOX NATION?
First things first. You have to get to the prom in order to dance. If the Sox bats don't wake up in a big way and SOON they are in for a touch stretch run. But having said that, I believe they will be there in the end and I will take my chances with Lester, Beckett and the Pitcher du jour.
